Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami has decided to keep his job by pulling out of the Kebbi State governorship race after giving out exotic cars to his associates.

Reports emerged on Friday night that the AGF has withdrawn from the gubernatorial race.

The media even reported that he had bid farewell to his boss and had begun consultations to actualise his governorship bid.

Recall that Malami had declared his intention last month to succeed Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State under the platform of the All-Progressive Congress (APC).

While seeking the APC stakeholders’ support for his gubernatorial bid, the Minister said: if you will support me and accept me, I wish to say I am interested in becoming the next governor of Kebbi”.

The New Diplomat earlier reported that President Buhari had directed all serving ministers, heads of government agencies, departments, parastatals; ambassadors, and other political appointees with political ambitions for the forthcoming 2023 general elections to resign from their respective positions.

The directive was contained in a circular, dated May 11, 2022, with Ref. No.SGF/OP/l/S.3/Xll/173, and issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha.

In the circular, Buhari said the government had observed and noted that some members of the Federal Executive Council, Heads of Extra-Ministerial departments, agencies, parastatals of government, ambassadors, and other political office holders have purchased nomination forms to contest the upcoming Presidential, Gubernatorial, National and State Assemblies elections.
