The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the evacuation of dead persons and other persons who were trapped in a deadly flood that ravaged several parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

This was revealed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who undertook a tour of the affected areas in the state.

The Minister also confirmed that thousands of families trapped in Maiduguri flooded areas are being evacuated to safer areas by the military, volunteers and other security agencies.

It would be recalled that the Alau dam, which had been at full capacity for a week, caused severe flooding, submerging several areas of the Maiduguri.

Although some flooded areas of Maiduguri have receded, badly affected areas like Gamboru Market, Kasuwan Shanu, Custom Area, Fori, and Abbaganaram are still actively flooded.

Thousands of residents had fled their homes after the flood hit Maiduguri.
