John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as the President of Ghana on January 7, 2025, marking his return to office after previously serving from 2012 to 2017.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana.

This followed Mahama’s victory in the December 2024 presidential election.

He defeated his closest contender, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, with 56.55% of the valid votes cast.

The New Diplomat reports that Mahama becomes the first non-consecutive President in Ghana’s Fourth Republic following a landslide victory in the 2024 presidential polls of Ghana.

The election result was significant as it not only marked Mahama’s political comeback but also made history by electing Ghana’s first female Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

It would also be recalled that Mahama’s campaign focused on tackling economic challenges, promoting social development, and fostering national unity, with particular emphasis on addressing issues like corruption, high unemployment, inflation, and public discontent.
