LOTUS Bank Limited, a Nigeria’s Non-Interest Bank (NIB), has won the Leadership Newspaper Bank of the Year 2022 award.
The award was pronounced and presented at the just concluded 14th LEADERSHIP Conference and Awards held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The event had over the years become a barometer for measuring excellence in both private and public sectors of the Nigerian economy, with special attention on compliance to international best practices in the nation’s financial institution category.
The organizers said the bank won the LEADERHIP Bank of the Year 2022 for its drive and impact in improving financial inclusion in the country, boosting non-oil export earnings, and recognizing its efforts towards economic growth and pursuit of ethical banking in less than two years since it obtained its banking licence”.
Receiving the award on behalf of the bank, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mrs. Kafilat Araoye said the award came as a surprise to her and the bank.
According to her “we (Lotus Bank) were just doing what we can to ensure that Nigeria achieves financial inclusion and to help businesses particularly exporters in such a way that the country would be able to generate the needed foreign exchange.”
She furthered that, “One of the purposes of setting up LOTUS Bank is to add value to the society. What we have done most since inception is to go to places where people don’t normally go to and try to educate them on why they should have a bank account.
Araoye stressed that it was important for the people to be financially included, regardless of their economic or physical status
She said this was the resolution that drives her organisation’s commitment and specific increment for it’s attention on agricultural output in addition to their export drive, which aims at reducing pressure on the institution’s foreign exchange.
“We did not know that the things we were doing were being noticed and we appreciate the honour that is being bestowed on us,” she added.
Mrs. Araoye further said, “LOTUS Bank is poised to continue to deliver superior and innovative non-interest banking financial products and services to diverse customer segments in line with its principles and ethical values”
Commending the organisers of the LEADERSHIP Award for the gesture, the banker said the media group has been able to set itself on a high pedestal of professionalism in journalism in Nigeria.
