Literarywizard, a literary platform which promotes African literature has called for entries that will contribute to its first issue titled: ‘The Literary Wizard Anthony’ which will feature top 100 poems from student writers from higher institutions across Africa.

The theme of the first issue is “Unmuted Voices” and it seeks to receive intriguing works especially from unpublished writers, whose voices would become unmuted for the world to hear.

According to Kevin Onuegbu, a student writer and the convener of the initiative: “The aim of the initiative is to publish student writers whose voices may have been silenced and muted by financial constraints.”

Also speaking on why he founded the platform he said: “I wanted a platform that will promote the grandeur and ingenuity of African Literature, a platform that will project the African literary voice to the world, a platform that will project the works of yet-to-be published and newly published writers of the continent and so far we have been doing that well enough. This time we are targeting student writers who might have constrained financially from writing. Hence, the birth of ‘The LiteraryWizard Anthology’ which we intend to organise yearly.

“A Literarywizard is one who can contribute meaningfully to the reconstruction and development of their societies through their crafts,” he said.

Also speaking on sponsorship of the competition, he added that “As of now, we do not have any sponsor(s) yet but we are on the look out for well wishers because we intend to discover talents from the nook and cranny of the continent and also award each entrant that made a shortlist a copy of the book, either in hard copy or soft copy.”

Instituted last year by Kevin Onuegbu, Literarywizard aims to promote the ingenuity and grandeur of African Literature.
