Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have summoned an emergency meeting amid deepening crisis that has continued to beset the PDP for months.

This was announced in a statement issued by the Director-General of the PDP’s Governors’ Forum. According to the statement, the meeting was summoned to find a solution to the fresh crisis bedeviling the party.

The meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 5pm.

The statement reads, “The chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, in consultation with his colleagues, have summoned an emergency meeting of the Forum to hold on Thursday, 26th August, 2021 at 5pm.

“The meeting will discuss recent developments in the PDP.

“The governors enjoined all PDP members and stakeholders to exercise patience, as efforts are being made to ensure continued stability of the party in the days ahead.”

This is coming after a Rivers High Court in Port Harcourt on Monday, had granted an order restraining Secondus from parading himself as the National Chairman and member of the PDP pending the determination of a suit filed against him.

This has in turn escalated the crisis in the party as two executive members are currently laying claim to the position of the acting National Chairman of the party. The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP, Yemi Akinwonmi, and Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Sulieman Nazif have both declared themselves as the party’s acting national chairman.
