  • Group Leader Dump PDP To Back Sanwo-Olu’s Re-election, Asks Jandor To Step Down For GovernorĀ

Ahead of the March 18th Gubernatorial election, a socio-political group, Yoruba Council Worldwide, has endorsed the candidacy of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state for re-election.

The group, also known as Igbimo Apapa Yoruba Lagbaye, while declaring support for Sanwo-Olu, said its reason for doing so was based on the governor’s achievements and goodwill in the last four years.

The position was made known by the President of the group, Aare (Barr.) Oladotun Hassan during a press conference which held in Lagos state and monitored by The New Diplomat Wednesday.

Hassan during the press conference said Sanwo-Olu’s crystal clear marks across several sectors of Lagos state have given him an edge over all the candidates vying for the top seat in the state.

According to him, the Governor has performed well in the last four years and deserves to be re-elected for continuity of his projects.

In his words, “Gentlemen of the press, the leadership of the Yoruba Council of youth worldwide as taken it upon itself to appeal to whole Lagosians ahead of the 18th march gubernatorial election in Lagos state, we hereby endorse Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for re-election as the executive governor of Lagos state.

“Our endorsement is predicated on his good works, his landmark achievements, his towered crystal clear marks in infrastructure development, education, health. We can all witness as far as the blue rail line across the length and breadth of Lagos state, the new airport in Epe axis of Lagos state. We can talk about the Nollywood city in a way we can talk about the Lekki deep sea port. We can talk about the badagry deep sea ports.

“These are infrastructural developments that the generation now and the generation yet unborn will continually be appreciative to the administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. And it is in this regard I, in my capacity as the president, Aare Oba Oladotun Hassan, do hereby announce an appeal to all Lagosians, Igbo, Hausa Yoruba to please let us re-elect the man that has been doing that great work for all of us. That has been making Lagos State to work for all of us, that has brought about security of lives and property for all of us, that is very committed and passionate to the service and development of Lagos State.

Speaking further, Hassan also appealed to the Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to drop its governorship candidate in support of Sanwo-Olu.

According to him, this is to ensure that power remains with the indigenes of the state and not “strangers who will come and scavage our land.”

He continued, “I also wish to categorically state clearly that before now I’m the senatorial aspirants for Lagos East under the PDP before now, because we all toed the line of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as Yoruba leaders that we need to participate in politics. I’ve always been a PDP leader. But I want to implore that there is no need for PDP to feature any candidates.

“And I’m putting it to all PDP members across Lagos states that I, Oladotun Hassan from today, I will be joining Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in staring the ship of progress under the All Progressive Congress. And I want to implore all PDP leaders across the length and breadth of Lagos state to come out loudly and let us rise in unison so that the strangers will not come and scavage our land.

“It is in this light, that we want to implore that all Lagosians should come out peacefully and vote enmass for Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat for reelection as far as the 18th march is concerned. It is on this note that we plead with everyone to please maintain peace, because Lagos is known for peace, Lagos is home for all and Lagos is a mini-Nigeria that protect each and every one of us. Thank you and God bless.”
