As part of efforts to entrench a safe driving culture among residents of Lagos, especially commercial drivers, the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, LASDRI, has taken its safe driving enlightenment campaign and Advocacy Program to CMS Taxi and Motor Park, Marina.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Mr. Philips Ogunlade, while addressing the Commercial Drivers, during the programme said the advocacy tagged “Zero Crash In Ember Months and Beyond” was in line with the Institute’s mandate aimed at ensuring that all Professional Drivers in the State avoid things that can exacerbate the rate of accidents during the last four (4) months of the year often referred to as Ember months.

He explained that due to the increased travelling by people during the ember months and the desire by commercial drivers to maximize their daily profits, scores of innocent people are killed in avoidable accidents, man-hours are lost in traffic and the natural economy suffers incalculable losses.

Ogunlade, therefore, urged drivers, commuters and other stakeholders in the transport business to take simple safety steps, including obeying traffic rules and regulations, avoid over-speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs among others.

He also implored the passengers, to, at all times, caution drivers on overspeeding as safety on the road is a collective responsibility.

While appealing to all Lagosians at all levels to ensure competence in service delivery and promote an accident-free State, the LASDRI boss pointed out that the present administration is desirous of ensuring that sanity prevails on the road, adding that adequate measures were being put in place to reduce road accidents in Lagos State.

The Vice Chairman of the Taxi & Motor Parks, CMS, Alhaji Billiaminu Gbolade thanked the State Government for bringing the campaign to the area and for educating drivers on the basic rules and regulations governing their operations in order to ensure sanity on Lagos roads.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has commenced a Structured and Mandatory Professional Driving Training Course for drivers and conductors, including non-professional drivers interested in improving their driving skills.

The mandatory training is for professional drivers who are expected to attend the Institute for training, retraining and recertification once a year at any of the centres located in Oshodi, Lagos Island, Ikorodu and Epe.
