Following the attack on THISDAY Director, Mr. Emmanuel Efeni, by traffic robbers last Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, at the weekend said the command has swung into action to arrest the culprits.

Imohimi also said the command has activated a response team of mobile policemen to patrol the axis especially during traffic build up at rush hours.

Efeni, alongside other motorists were attacked by hoodlums on Ijora bridge as he was heading to the office to meet up with the 8a.m. newspaper review.

The hoodlums who took advantage of the perennial traffic snarl at the Apapa area of the state, had attacked motorists stuck in traffic and dispossessed them of their valuables.

Upon reading the report, the CP had reached across to the reporter and on getting the necessary facts, promised to track the robbers and get them arrested. 

He said he immediately called the Area B Police Command and gathered no report was made there.

Notwithstanding, he said the robbers would be tracked with the number of the stolen phone and arrested for prosecution.

The move to track them using the phone however hit a snag as the line has since been deactivated.

Edgal also promised to activate a response team of mobile policemen to patrol that axis to protect motorists.

Meanwhile, the activation of police patrol team paid off yesterday morning as two traffic robbers were arrested by the Area B Command.

The suspects simply identified as 18-year-old Lucky Patrick and 28-year-old Daniel James, were arrested after they robbed a lady.

The victim, Kate Oghenekome, was attacked while driving in traffic along Parklane Road in Apapa. 

Confirming the arrests,  the state police spokesman, Chike Oti, said the arrests were made possible because a team of policemen were quickly mobilised to  the scene.

He said: “Upon information received that one Kate Oghenekome Lucky was attacked by hoodlums while in traffic along Parklane Road, Apapa, a team of policemen were quickly mobilised to the scene.

“The police team chased and arrested the hoodlums later identified as Lucky Patrick and Daniel James, while the robbed items were recovered from the suspects. 

“Meanwhile, effort is being made to track down other members of the gang. The CP is not resting on his oars to keep Lagosians safe.”
