The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Lagos State Chapter has on Thursday said it will continue to position the architecture profession on the track of leadership at the nation’s construction industry to protect members’ interest, as well as uphold the mandate of the institute.

The Chairman, NIA Lagos, Arc. Fitzgerald Umah made the statement while addressing members of the institute at the 2017 Annual General Meeting held at Kongi Harvest, Freedom Park, Lagos.

“This is a burden that our shoulders are more than willing to bear to ensure that NIA and Lagos State Chapter remain relevant and respected in our society,” he said.

Highlighting some of the key achievements of the current NIA-Lagos leadership one year after assuming office, Umah mentioned the increase in the chapter’s membership strength; training of upcoming architects and visitation to schools of architecture to boost students’ interest in the chapter affairs; Removal of registration bottlenecks which had hitherto hampered architect’s professional registration as key areas where the chapter has recorded salient advancement.

He also noted among other achievements, that the Lagos Chapter has organized sundry professional/CPD seminars to bring architects up to speed on cutting edge innovations in the field of architecture.

While appraising the Lagos Architects Forum (LAF) 8.0 entitled: ‘Architectural Autopoiesis’ held in May this year, Umah said, “LAF 2017 was a significant success with key note speakers, both local and foreign gracing the occasion,” tasking members to ensure sustainable advancement of the yearly forum by improving on subsequent LAF programs.
