The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of following ill advice from individuals he described as “enemies of Kano State”, thereby disrupting the peaceful co-existence of people of Kano state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of 82 kilometers of rural road networks in his hometown of Madobi, Kwankwaso asserted that the Federal Government is being influenced by unpatriotic politicians from Kano state who lost elections and are bent on causing chaos in the State.
The former Kano State governor warned that these actions would only lead to failure, as the people of Kano would resist any attempts to undermine the constitutional responsibilities of their governor.
The New Diplomat reports that Kano State has been witnessing massive games of thrones and unrest between the camps of current Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II and the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signed some changes in the Kano State Emirate Council Bill into Law 2024.
Commenting on the ongoing emirate tussle, Kwankwaso said some federal security agencies have allegedly supported the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero. He emphasized that the people of Kano would not tolerate any effort to undermine the state’s constituted authority.
Kwankwaso stated:“We have mass followership because people believe in us, we are pro-people, and the NNPP administration is determined to serve them wherever they vote for it,”
“We will not fold our arms and watch enemies of the state destroying the peaceful coexistence of our dear state. We shall do everything possible to support the governor to succeed. I am happy that he is not distracted and is focused on achieving his goals.” he added
Kwankwaso further claimed that certain individuals from Kano, who he accused of suffering from “mental illness,” are advising the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Kano State. He labeled this idea as “madness of the highest order” and assured that the people of Kano would resist such measures.
He declared:“In the build-up to 2027, some desperate politicians are already on a mission of disruption, but we will rather prefer the two of us to lose than to allow them to crush us unnecessarily.
“We dare anybody who thinks they can victimize us politically to be rest assured that we are ready for the fight,” he said.
He concluded by emphasizing that the NNPP is open to dialogue, truce, and reconciliation but will not accept any form of intimidation or political harassment. “We know how to play politics and we have all it takes to protect ourselves from any evil,” Kwankwaso warned.
