Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the Senate, has publicly criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of adopting what she called an “emperor mentality.”

The female senator, who spoke on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, alleged that the FCT minister has not made the lives of the people of the FCT better.

According to her, Wike is allegedly owing salaries and not carrying her along in the drafting of the budget for the city.

Kingibe also raised concerns over Wike’s handling of key issues, such as urban development projects, land allocation disputes, and community engagement.

She said: “In the last few months, I gave it some thought and said at the end of the day, all I want is my people to benefit. If being less antagonistic to the minister would help bring development to the people, then fine.

“So, I decided that despite the things that I don’t like that he is doing, I will minimise my public criticisms of him, but it’s not made any difference because he has an emperor mentality.”

The New Diplomat reports that Kingibe and Wike have been engaged in a serious protracted war of words since they assumed their respective offices in June and August 2023.
