King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer according to a statement by Buckingham Palace. The type of cancer has not been disclosed.

“It was discovered during his recent enlarged prostate treatment,” the palace statement said. “The King began regular cancer treatments today.”

Charles was said to be wholly positive about his prognosis. He aims “to return to full public duty soon,” according to the palace.

The 75-year-old King will postpone engagements as he undergoes outpatient care. Other royals are expected to stand in for him.

Prince Harry has been in contact after learning of his father’s diagnosis. “Harry will travel to see his dad in the coming days,” a source close to Harry said.

Earlier this month, Charles had a prostate procedure at a London hospital. The palace said at the time he wanted to raise awareness about prostate screenings.

Charles had also appeared at a church service Sunday, waving to crowds. He seemed in good spirits before the cancer revelation.

The monarch returned to London Monday after recovering from the prostate surgery. Despite the cancer battle, he continues his duties as head of state.

Physicians say that cancer risk increases with age. Over a third of UK cancer cases annually are in people over 75.
