A former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki has passed away at the age of 90 years.
The demise was announced in a statement issued by Kenyan President, Uhuru on Friday.
“Mwai Kibaki will forever be remembered as a gentleman in Kenyan politics, a brilliant debater and one who steered development in the country,” Kenyatta said in the statement.
Kenyatta also ordered a mourning period to honour Kibaki, during which flags will be flown at half-mast.
Kibaki served two terms as president of the East African country, ruling from 2002 to 2013.
Kibaki was married to Lucy Muthoni from 1961 until her death in 2016. They have four children: Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagai, and Tony Githinji. They also have several grandchildren: Joy Jamie Marie, Rachael Muthoni, Mwai Junior and Krystinaa Muthoni.
