By Kolawole Ojebisi

Kemi Badenoch, the Nigerian-British leader of the United Kingdom Conservative party says while she is not an atheist certain events in life have made her believe it’s hard to profess the existence, or non-existence, of God with absolute certainty.

The Tory leader said this when asked whether she believes in God or not during an interview with Free Press which started trending on Saturday.

The British politician stressed that she is an agnostic adding that she prefers to call herself “a cultural Christian”

She said, “Not anymore. I’m not an atheist; I’m an agnostic. I used to believe very much. But now I’ll describe myself as a cultural Christian.”

The interviewer probed further about faith and morality by asking Badenoch if she thinks the world is better if people believe in God and allow this consciousness to influence their actions.

The Conservative leader’s answer was in the negative, she stated, “I don’t think it matters so much; I think it matters is what they do with their belief or lack of it.”

Badenoch has been in the news recently for making unrelenting savoury remarks about Nigeria and its crop of leaders.
