The Royal crisis rocking Kano State has continued to escalate as pockets of protest have begun to erupt in several parts of the state.

This is as hundreds of protesters stormed the streets of the state to protest the dethronement of the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

It was gathered that the protesters stormed the streets around 4 pm on Sunday, calling the state government to reinstate Bayero as the Emir of Kano.

The protesters were said to have barricaded roads, lighting bonfires on major roads as they chanted solidarity songs.

Also, some of the protesters were armed with several placards with inscriptions such as: “Abba Kabir Yusuf, Obey Court order”, “Court Brought You”, “You Must Obey The Court”, “Aminu Is Still Our Emir”, “We Are Against Injustice”

Though policemen were observed to be on the ground, they, however, did not attempt to disperse the protesters who marched to the streets.

Also, in other parts of the state, residents of Gaya in Kano State on Sunday took to the streets to protest against the dissolution of the Gaya Emirate by the state government.

It would be recalled that the Gaya Emirate is among the emirate councils recently dissolved by the Kano State Government after the Kano Emirates Council Law of 2019 was amended.

Dissatisfied with the action, the residents of Gaya stormed the streets in protest to press home their demands for a reversal of the newly enacted law.

They accused the government of political motives behind the dissolution and demanded the reinstatement of their emirate and the removed emir.

“Some people are not happy with this development. It feels like an injustice to our community,” said Abubakar Shuaibu, a resident of Gaya.

Another protester, Aminu Abdullahi, stated, “We see this as a political move to undermine our traditional institutions. The government should reconsider its decision and respect our cultural heritage.”

The New Diplomat reports that Governor Abba Yusuf had dissolved the five Emirates Council and reinstated Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. This came after the Governor signed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law.
