It suggests movement, resolve, and visible action. In a country where too many communities live under the shadow of fear, the image…

  • Says Bayero Is Leaving In Graveyard

By Abiola Olawale

Kano State Government has approved a total sum of N99.92 million for the demolition, reconstruction, and renovation of the defective wall/fence as well as the surroundings of the Nasarawa mini palace, where deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero has been residing since his dethronement.

This is also as the Kano state government ordered the eviction of Bayero from the Nasarawa mini palace.

Media and Publicity Director-General to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano state, Sanusi Bature made this revelation while speaking with the press in Kano State.

The media aide confirmed his principal has already issued a notice of eviction to Bayero in other to give way for the proposed renovation.

Bature also disclosed that the total sum of N99.92 million was approved by the Kano State Executive Council (SEC) during a meeting which was held on Saturday.

Bature also lamented that the deposed Monarch has continued to live in the Nasarawa mini-palace despite knowing that it is a ‘’ cemetery/graveyard with a part serving as a guest house for very important visitors,’’.

According to him, the mini palace is unsafe for the dethroned emir to continue to ‘squat’ in.

He said: “His (Aminu’s) father was buried there, his grandfather is there and his great-grandfather is there. You can find out.”

“So, the Nasawara palace is a cemetery for the late Emirs of Kano, not much of a palace.

“Another part of it is used as a guest house for very important visitors to the palace. It is also where the Emir can rest for a short while when he is coming back from an annual festival during the Sallah celebration or when he is coming to the Government House.

“So, Aminu is living in a graveyard. He forced himself into that property. We want to renovate it so it can be used for its original purpose and Bayero’s safety from the defective structure.

“We are indeed concerned about the safety of him continuing to stay in the graveyard.

“With the repeal of the 2019 Emirate Law, which had created additional emirates like Bichi, Karaye, Gaya, and Rano, Bayero’s jurisdiction no longer exists.

“I mean, with the revision of the law under one united Kano, the Emirate that Bayero once served does not exist again.

“He was the 15th Emir of Kano, but his jurisdiction was not for the 44 local government areas of Kano. It was only for the eight metropolitan government councils, which is now abolished.’’

The New Diplomat reports that Kano State has been witnessing massive games of thrones after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signed some changes in the Kano State Emirate Council Bill into Law 2024.

The newly- signed law dissolved four new Emirates in the State and restored Kano Emirate to its pre-2019 status on Thursday, May 23.

Yusuf also issued a reappointment letter to Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II on Friday, May 24, as the new Emir of Kano, and ordered the Emirs affected by the new law to vacate their palaces within 48 hours.

However, Bayero has continued to lay claim to the throne and has been sighted performing some ceremonial duties.
