US Vice President Kamala Harris is increasingly looking to secure the Democratic presidential nomination, having received $46.7 million in donations within seven hours of launching her campaign for the presidential seat.

This is coming after President Joe Biden, in a dramatic development announced that he would be terminating his reelection campaign and backing his Vice, Harris for the 2024 election.

Following the announcement, Harris accepted the endorsement and announced her decision to contest.

The move is believed to have sparked enthusiasm as a flood of donations poured in for Harris.

ActBlue, the Democrat-linked fundraising platform, revealed that tens of millions had been raised from small donors after Biden tweeted his statement that he was stepping down.

ActBlue who took to its official X handle tweeted: “As of 9 pm ET, grassroots supporters have raised $46.7 million through ActBlue following Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign launch.

“This has been the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle. Small-dollar donors are fired up and ready to take on this election,” the tweet added.

The New Diplomat reports that the surge in enthusiasm and donations is in marked contrast to reports that Democrat donors had turned cold on Biden since his disastrous performance in the first presidential debate, and speculation about his slips.
