The presidential ambitions of United States Vice President and presidential hopeful, Kamala Harris may have been affected as a socio-political organization known as Black Lives Matter has criticized the Democratic Party for supporting the country’s second-in-command without following due process.

The organisation while declaring that it will not be in support of any unlawful process called on the Democratic Party to immediately conduct a primary election.

It would be recalled that President Joe Biden exited the 2024 presidential race in an unprecedented fashion and endorsed Harris to take his place.

Following the development, the Vice president was reported to have gotten enough endorsements to get the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party.

She has over $100 million in fundraising since Sunday afternoon. Despite the historic potential of Harris becoming the first black woman President of the US, Black Lives Matter expressed disapproval of her nomination.

The organisation accused the Democratic party of “anointing” Harris without letting primary voters have their say.”

To remedy the issue, the left-wing organization, in a press statement demanded that the Democratic National Committee should host a virtual snap primary to accommodate voters before its August convention.

The statement reads in part: “We do not live in a dictatorship. Delegates are not oligarchs. Any attempt to evade or override the will of voters in our primary system—no matter how historic the candidate—must be condemned.

“This is about the Democratic Party following a process that protects the legitimacy of any future Democratic president following this unprecedented moment.

“Installing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and an unknown vice president without any public voting process would make the modern Democratic Party a party of hypocrites. It would undermine their credibility on issues related to democracy.”

The organisation also expressed concern that any process other than the virtual snap primary would be considered undemocratic and lend credence to critics’ claims that Harris was selected solely because of her race and gender.
