Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) has announced that within 24 hours after its announcement, it will hold elections into Birnin Gwari and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas. That is tomorrow, Saturday October 23 2021, one month after the suspension of the exercise in the areas on September 23, 2021.
The commission’s chairman, Dr. Saratu Binta Dikko – Audu, announced the development in a press statement, with a view to bringing the Kaduna ‘21 Local Election to a logical conclusion.
The democratic exercise in the two local government areas was suspended at a press briefing on 23rd September 2021.
The election will be conducted tomorrow, Saturday, between 8.00am and 4.00pm.
The chairman announced. “we now wish to let residents of Birnin Gwari and Zangon Kataf know that the suspended 2021 local government councils election will hold on Saturday 23rd October 21, 2021 between the hours of 08.00am and 4.00pm”.
She added “residents of Sabon Sarki ward of Kachia Local government will also be voting for chairman and Councilor while residents of the following polling units of Kachia Urban Ward will vote for their choice of Chairman only: U/Gabas II PU 002, U/Gabas III PU 030, Kusfa I PU 003. Kwantaro I PU 007, Kwantaro II PU008, Kwantaro III PU 032, Madaka LEA I PU 010, S/Gari Gidan Mai Burodi PU 014 and GSS Kachia PU 012.
“SIECOM also wishes to commend the citizens of Kaduna state for displaying a high sense of maturity and responsibility while exercising their civic duty in electing candidates of their choice into local government councils in the state,” the chairman stated.
Dr Dikko-Audu appealed to the contestants and the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully.
