Niger delta coastal state monarchs have urged the Federal Government to urgently constitute a dialogue team to ensure continuous peace in the Niger Delta

The Monarchs made the request in Abuja when they called on the Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu.

The Niger Delta Region has witnessed increased activities of militants which has affected life in the area particularly oil production.

The Government has been making efforts to ensure that peace returns to the area so that development will continue.

Traditional Rulers form the region have also added their voice to search for peace where they are calling for dialogue.

While calling on the youths to immediately shun all attacks on critical Government infrastructure and security forces, Spokesperson for the Monarchs, Bolowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Willington Okirika also called for the ceassation of what he called hostilities by the military in the area

The Monarchs also called for the opening of the Maritime University Okerenkoko Delta State

Responding, Minister of State Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu assured the Monarchs of President Mohammadu Buhari’s commitment to engaging key players in the area in find lasting solution through dialogue.

He assured the delegation that he will deliver their message to the President Muhammadu Buhari.
