It was a gathering of the who is who among Urhobo leaders and elites as they thronged the Uvwiamuge headquarters of the Urhobo Progress Union, (UPU) to reminiscence and pay tributes to late Professor Peter Palmer Ekeh for his life and time as he embarks on his final journey.
The occasion held at the capacity-packed hall of the UPU was put together by members of the Urhobo Historical Society, (UHS) and the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU.
Tagged “The Professor Peter Ekeh Memorial Symposium and Day of Tributes”, the event is being chaired by yet another Urhobo living legend erudite Prof. Emeritus, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire.
Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, former VC of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State delivered a lecture titled: ‘Social Reality, Statehood and Citizenship in Africa’s, while Prof. Andrew Edevbie, who is presently speaking on the tributes to late Prof. Ekeh.
Dignitaries present include the President-General of UPU, Olorogun Moses Taiga, Oyiborhoro, President, Urhobo Historical Society, Prof G.G. Darah, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, Olorogun Goodie Ibru, Chief James Ibori, Chief Johnson Barovbe, Prof. Andrew Edevbie, among others.
Prof. Ekeh is an international scholar of Nigerian origin, foremost professor of political science and founder of Urhobo Historical Society (UHS).
The New Diplomat had reported that the distinguished international scholar, professor Peter Ekeh whose ground-breaking academic work “Colonialism and the Two Publics in Africa: A Theoretical Statement” first published in 1975, regarded as one of the most cited works in the field of African, political and sociological studies in various universities across the entire globe, passed on on November, 17, 2020 at the age of 83 in the United States.
