President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a new batch of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, including former Naval Chief and immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, and former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff, Abdulrahman Dambazau.

Also on the list are former Senator Ita Enang and Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State. Their names were not included in the earlier set of nominees released by the presidency.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president’s letter during Thursday’s plenary, with Tinubu urging lawmakers to fast-track the confirmation process to enable the government fill key diplomatic positions.

Akpabio referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing the panel to complete its screening and submit a report within one week.

This fresh list follows the president’s earlier nominations of Reno Omokri, former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, ex-Minister of Aviation; Mahmood Yakubu, immediate past INEC chairman; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Enugu State governor; Erelu Bisi Fayemi, former Ekiti State First Lady, Otunba Femi Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos, among others, as ambassadors.
