  • Fayose, Wike Missing On Delegation’s List
By ‘Dotun Akintomide
Barring any last minute change, six Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have been scheduled to leave Nigeria today alongside other leaders to pay visit to President Muhammadu Buhari who is receiving medical treatment in London.

The visit which was reported to have been organized by the office of the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Munguno (retd.), would be embarked upon by the six governors who were picked from the six geo-political zones of the country.

It was gathered that among the six governors are Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo).

But the identities of the two other governors, who are expected to be selected from the North-East and North-Central are still not clear.

The PUNCH reported that, a governor, who is not among those travelling to see Buhari, said those chosen for the journey were picked outside the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

However, the Governor was said to have expressed surprise at the exclusion of Mr. Ayodele Fayose and Mr. Nyesom Wike from the delegation visiting the President, considering their critical stance on the President’s ailment and the incumbent APC-led federal government.

The Governor who spoke anonymously was quoted as saying: “Our colleagues are going to London to see the President.  But I’m not happy that someone like the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, or his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Nyesom Wike, is not on the delegation.

“Though there are PDP governors on the delegation, we know ourselves and also know those we know are truly part of the opposition and those close to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“The governors had been directed to be at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, tomorrow (Tuesday). From there, they will fly to the United Kingdom.”

The governors are expected to have lunch with the President before returning to the country on Wednesday.

On Sunday, inside the Abuja House in London, four APC Governors alongside the national chairman of the party, Chief Jhon Odigie-Oyegun had visited President Muhammadu Buhari who has been on a medical vacation since May 7.

Though, a release of the first photograph of the President since he left the country gave a glimmer of hope to some Nigerians that Buhari may soon return, but critics have cynically dismissed the APC Governors’ visit, saying, the picture was taken long ago at a breakfast meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.
