The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delivered a stunning performance in the Osun State local government elections, capturing all 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in a contest overseen by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).
The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, announced this at a press conference on Saturday.
The New Diplomat reports that the road to this election was paved with legal and political drama.
On Friday, February 22, 2025, the Osun State High Court in Osogbo ruled in favour of proceeding with the poll, following a PDP-led suit that argued for the necessity of filling vacant council seats.
This came after a federal high court had voided a prior local election in 2022, creating a governance gap at the local level.
The APC, meanwhile, had pointed to a Court of Appeal ruling they interpreted as reinstating previously sacked council officials.
