The Imo State Police Command on Monday confirmed that the former governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has been released.

The former Governor was arrested on Sunday for attempting to reopen the Royal Palm Estate which was sealed by the Governor Hope Uzodinma’s government.

Orlando Ikeokwu, the spokesperson, Imo State police command, revealed this on an interview with the Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’, programme.

Ikeokwu said Okorocha was only invited for questioning over attempting to unseal the Royal Palm Estate, which is reportedly owned by his wife, Nkechi. He said Okorocha was released on Sunday night.

In his words, “He was released later at night. If anybody is found culpable, definitely, he will be charged to court. If investigation proves that he (Okorocha) has committed an offence, he will be charged to court.”

Recall also that the former Governor had alleged that his predecessor, Uzodimma attacked him with “more than 1,000 thugs”.

However, Declan Emelumba, Commissioner for Information of Imo State, has debunked the claims, stating that Okorocha was arrested for attempting to reopen the estate which has been sealed by the state government.
