Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, his deputy, Monday Onyeme and the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, have announced the decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress(APC).

The announcement was made following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, who confirmed the decision said the decision was reached after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Also, the development was confirmed by Senator James Manager, a former lawmaker representing Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State in the Senate.

Manager revealed: “All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC.”

This comes following the defection of members of a Delta State-based political pressure group, the Delta Unity Group (DUG), led by Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in their large numbers to the APC.

Also, Senator Ned Nwoko, the lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State defected to the APC in February 2025.

The development also comes after the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, helped build the APC in 2023.

It would be recalled that Omo-Agege campaigned rigorously for the APC in the build-up to the 2023 general elections and won two Senatorial districts for the party.

He has also been vocal about welcoming bigwigs from the opposition parties to ensure that APC wins Delta State in the forthcoming 2027 General election.
