The Niger state government has released the names of students and staff abducted from Government Science College, Kagara, early Wednesday.
According to the released list, 27 students, 3 teachers, two non-teaching staff and 9 family members of the staff staying in the quarters were abducted by armed bandits during the raid on the school.
The names of the abducted teachers are: Hannatu Philip, Lawal Abdullahi and Dodo Fodio while the non teaching staff are Mohammed Musa and Faiza Mohammed.
The abducted family members are: Christiana Adama, Faith Adama, Maimuna Suleman, Nura Isah, Ahmad Isah, Khadizat Isah, Mohammed Mohammed, Aisha Isah and Saratu Isah.
The kidnapped students are identified as: Jamilu Isah, Shem Joshua, Abbas Abdullahi, Isah Abdullahi, Ezekeil Danladi, Haliru Shuibu, Mamuda Suleman, Danzakar Dauda, Abdulsamad Sanusi, Bashir Abbas. Suleman Lawal, Abdullahi Adamu, Habakuk Augustine, Idris Mohammed, Musa Adamu, Abdulkarim Abdulrahman, Abubakar Danjumma, Abdullahi Abubakar, Bashir Kamalideen, Mohammed Salisu. Yusuf M Kabir, Isah Abdullah Makusidi, Polineous Vicente, Lawal Bello, Mohammed K Shehu, Mubarak Sidi and Abdulsamad Nuhu.
Additionally, the attack on the GSC recorded one death. Benjamin Habila, has been revealed as the student shot by the suspected bandits.
Meanwhile, the Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, Wednesday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Bello in the meeting lauded the swift response of President Buhari on the GSC Kagara school kidnap, pledging that priority will be given to the safe return of the students and staff.
Bello in his words faulted the security situation in the country.
He said all states and local governments in the country are currently plagued with security problems which demand a declaration of state of emergency which will help arrest the situation.
His statement reads, “To be honest, I’m very convinced by what Mr President told me and I feel I’ve seen the presence of the military in Kagara, I was there earlier today, and I also request for some additional personnel and equipment, which I believe will be granted any moment from now.
“Right now, our immediate priority is to get the kidnapped victims released, after that I think we must have a long lasting solution to the farmers/herders conflicts
On why he was at the State House, he said “I came in this evening to thank Mr President for his quick response to the plight of Nigerlites, following two serious kidnap incidents.
“At the same time we rubbed minds on what we think should be done so that we find an everlasting solution to the situation and Mr President has confirmed to me that this matter will be given proper attention and we’ll continue engaging the service chiefs and the federal so that we can guide and advice them on what we think should be done. So I think it was a wonderful meeting.” he said.
