The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially elected former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as its new National Chairman.
Turaki’s emergence at the just-concluded National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, came after a consensus was reached by stakeholders and key governors within the party.
Turaki, the sole candidate for the top position in the main opposition party, secured 1,516 votes.
His election followed the earlier withdrawal of Lado Danmarke, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Katsina State.
Despite dropping out of the race, Danmarke secured 275 votes.
A former lawmaker representing Anambra Central at the National Assembly, Senator Ben Obi, announced these results after the conclusion of voting at Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, on Saturday.
“It is therefore clear that from the votes cast that Timinu Turaki has won the position of the National Chairman of the PDP with a total of 1,516 votes,” he declared.
