  • Showers Royal Blessings On Omo-Agege

From Victor Onohwakpor (The New Diplomat’s Niger Delta Bureau Chief)

Warri Monarch, HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli I, Olu of Warri kingdom, has called on the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to use his good office to bring about the revival the Warri, Koko and Burutu sea ports, as well as the Osubi airport in Delta State.

The royal father who made this call in his palace in Warri, Sunday during a visit of the Deputy President of the Senate to him, expressed dismay over the poor state of the three ports in Delta State, noting that the Onitsha port has started operation and another port is being constructed in Bonny in Rivers State ,and is billed to start operation soon.

The Olu of Warri urged Omo-Agege to use his good office to draw the attention of the federal government to the need to commence the revival of the ports in Delta State, adding that the Onitsha port which started operation early last week was made possible through the effort of one person who is in a strategic position in the government.new Olu Of Warri and Omo-Agege

Olu of Warri Calls for Unity in the Niger Delta

He said: “Today, we hear that they are going to build a deep sea port in Bonny. Today, the port at Onitsha is working because of one man. Today, Oghara is in the world map because of one person. So, it takes a person to make a difference in life. By the grace of God you are there today. Warri port must come back to life.

“I went to Koko to inspect the Koko Ogheye road. That road has been abandoned for more than ten years because we have no voice.”

The monarch also made reference to the rot in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, which he described as a cash cow where people go to loot and get away with. According to him, the volume of money that has gone into the NDDC, was enough to transform the entire Niger Delta.

“See what happened in NDDC just now. Such a thing cannot happen in the North. Everybody just go there and take. It is a cash cow. Loot money and go and sit down, nobody will ask you. The money in NDDC can turn around the whole of the Niger Delta. But nobody is talking. So, let Koko port work, let Warri port work,” he added.

He also complained of the present state of the Osubi airport that is not operational, adding that he was invited to the passing out parade of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna but could not go just as he lamented the deplorable state of the Warri-Benin road.

He urged the Senator to also work hard to ensure that the Osubi port is upgraded to allow bigger aircraft to come in and out, adding that he (the Senator) can make a lot of difference.

“Today you can use your position to turn Osubi airport to a bigger one so that bigger planes can come. So, you can make a lot of difference. What you did will campaign for you.”

The royal father who prayed for Senator Omo-Agege, while showing praises on him for his hard work , dedication and spectacular accomplishments in office. The Warri  Monarch prayed that the Almighty God will continue to guide the Deputy Senate President and imbue in him  the wisdom to do to bring about laudable developments for the area

Earlier, the Deputy President of Senate, Omo-Agege, told the monarch that his visit was to thank His Royal Majesty for making out time to attend his (Omo-Agege) thanksgiving which took place earlier in the year, adding that since the Covid-19 pandemic he had not visited Delta State except on one or two occasions where he had to come and return the same day.

He said: “I am not here just because your doors are open 24 hours. I’m here because I’m your son. But more important than that, Your Majesty, you will recall that I was here sometime in February to invite you to my thanksgiving.

“Notwithstanding your commitment, you attended the ceremony. Your presence added colour and made all the difference. So, I’m here to say thank you. I’m here to appreciate you, sir.”
