There was heavy shootout at the Warri Correctional Centre also known as Okere Prison in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Thursday afternoon.

It was learnt that some hoodlums reportedly attacked the prison and freed some inmates at the Correctional Centre.

The New Diplomat gathered that there was chaos along the popular Okere Road in Warri where the prison is located.

Residents of the area confirmed the development saying that the armed security operatives are currently engaging the hoodlums in a shoot out.

It was however not clear if any casualty was recorded as a result of the incident but it was gathered that tens of inmates have escaped from the prison.

It was learnt that security operatives guarding the Correctional Centre, tried to resist the invaders.
