Ahead of the October 10 governorship poll in Ondo, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has officially flagged off his re-election campaign in Akure, Saturday.

A national leader of All Progressives Congress and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was in attendance alongside the former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande and other top chieftains of the APC.

Recall before the APC primary in the state, concerns were initially raised on the prospect of Tinubu backing Akeredolu to emerge as the party’s candidate. But that was later resolved as the former Lagos governor threw his weight behind his candidacy, marking a departure from what played out in 2016 when Tinubu rooted for his ally, Dr. Olusegun Abraham.

Abraham lost the primary to Akeredolu, something that led to a bickering of some sorts between the Governor and Tinubu, the strong man of Lagos politics.

Meanwhile, Akeredolu will be facing a familiar rival, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) at the poll in about a month’s time.

Recall the Governor defeated Jegede in 2016 to emerge as helmsman in the state, but the latter has vowed to outdo the former this time.
