Scores of people have reportedly lost their lives in a petrol tanker explosion in Lokoja, Kogi State, early Wednesday.

According to a report from an eyewitness, a tanker laden with fuel fell around Felele area of Lokoja, causing other incoming vehicles to ram into it.

The event was said to have happened near Kogi state polytechnic, a community with thick student population.

Many Polytechnic students and primary pupils were burnt to death in the tragic incident.

The accident occurred at about 8.30 according to an eye witness account.

Emergency responders are currently battling to put the fire out amid ongoing protests and violence following the tragedy.
