From Joseph Obukata (The New Diplomat’s N/Delta Corespondent)

Hours after testing positive for the rampaging virus–Covid-19 alongside his wife, Edith, Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has called on residents of the state to continue to adhere to all the Covid-19 protection protocols, reiterating that the virus is real.

The governor and his wife’s test results turned out positive Wednesday, after going into self quarantine last Friday as one of their daughters was confirmed to have tested positive for the Coronavirus.

The governor’s daughter was among the 106 Covid-19 cases confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in the State last week Thursday, June 25.

Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, said that the governor and his wife are stable and have commenced necessary treatment and further isolation.

The governor thanked Deltans for their prayers for his family, and called for continued supplications for all patients undergoing treatment for the pandemic.

He assured that his administration would not relent in its efforts at combating the virus in the state, and urged the public to support the government in that regard by complying with prescribed protocols by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Okowa reiterated that “COVID-19 is real. The rate is increasing in our state and the virus is taking the lives of some of our people.

“I, therefore, again call on every Deltan to observe the protocols on the virus while in public, to curb further spread of the virus, especially in the communities.’’
