The Ondo State Head Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Akure, has been gutted by fire.

The inferno affected a container housing sensitive election materials.

5100 Smart Card Readers were reported to have been burnt in the inferno, National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, who is in Ondo State, for preparations towards the Ondo State Governorship election said investigation into the cause of the fire will commence promptly after the fire has been contained.Inec office

Okoye said the fire affected the ICT section of the commission, and over 5100 card readers had been burnt in the inferno.

Okoye explained that about 1000 card readers delivered to the INEC from Osun were also burnt in the fire incident while the over 4000 belonging to the INEC in the state were also burnt.
