Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has blamed the escalation of the crisis in the state to fake news peddlers.

Speaking on Arise News Television, he said deliberate misinformation and disinformation of the public by some unscrupulous elements fueled the public anger, loss of lives, and destructions of monumental properties.

He appealed to the residents to slow down as see Lagos and its infrastructures as their collective heritage that should be jointly protected, no matter what.

According to him, “as good as social media is, there are still some sour point — fake news is one of the minuses of the platform.

“You are in your room, and you just got a post and you have not taken action to verify it, and posts it to 150 people, who probably have not waken up at the time. And they in turn, start spreading it to people who would probably take action without looking back.

“I think we need to slow down on that.

“There are several false information that we have seen. And we need to tell the people to help us slow that on that down,” he added.
