The Department of State Services(DSS) has reportedly arrested popular human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.

The activist was said to have been arrested by the operatives of DSS on Sunday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State.

Human rights activist and pro-democracy activist Deji Adeyanju confirmed this development in a statement issued on Sunday.

Adeyanju said: “SOWORE was arrested by the jobless and lawless Nigerian government for calling for an End to Bad Governance protest.”

Similarly, Saharareporters, in a report on Sunday, said: “NewsFlash: DSS Arrests Sowore Upon Arrival To Nigeria After Order By New DSS Boss.”

This comes after Sowore had raised an alarm that the Nigerian security forces were alleged attempting to track him down in his hometown in Ondo State.

Sowore who took to his official Facebook account on Saturday said:“Yeah! All around in my home town, they’re tryin’ to track me down, yeah! They say they want to bring me in guilty. However Babylon must fall! #FearlessInOctober.”

It would be recalled that Sowore was initially arrested by DSS operatives on August 3, 2019. The arrest came two days before a planned #RevolutionNow protest tagged “Days of Rage,” convened by the pro-democracy activist and slated for August 5, 2019.

Following his arrest, he was arraigned by the DSS on several occasions and was later released following sustained pressure.
