The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the September 21 gubernatorial election of Edo State.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, made this announcement on Sunday following the collation of results in Benin City, Edo State.

The New Diplomat reports that Okpebholo polled a total of 291,667 to defeat Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) who garnered 22,763 votes

A breakdown of the results shows that the APC won a total of 11 local governments against the PDP, who won 7 local government areas, respectively.
