Former Military Administrator of Oyo State, Colonel Ahmed Usman, is reportedly dead at the age of 70.

It was gathered that Usman passed away around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Jos, the Plateau State.

According to reports, the former administrator suffered a brief illness before his death.

It was also gathered that his remains will be moved to his country home, Kogi State, for burial according to Islamic rites today.

Usman hailed from Kogi State. He was born in 1951. He joined the Nigerian Army and served in various capacities which includes, the second-in-command, 192 Battalion, Abak and 141 Battalion in Kano State from 1983 to 1985; United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon from 1985 to 1986; and Battalion Commander of G Amphibious, Elele Port Harcourt from 1990 to 1991.

Usman was appointed as the Military administrator of Ondo State in September 1994.

In August 1996, Usman was deployment to Oyo State by the military regime of General Sani Abacha, to serve as the governor of the state. He was relieved of his position as the governor of the state in 1998, after the death of Abacha.

He was also a governorship aspirant of Kogi State. In August 2008, he declared his intention to run for the 2011 gubernatorial election of Kogi State.
