Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has congratulated Nigerians on the 25th anniversary of uninterrupted democratic governance, assuring them of full realization of abundant dividends of democracy soon.

The Speaker, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, acknowledged the country’s progress over the past 25 years, stating:“The dividends of democracy are bound to reach more Nigerians.”

“Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria. The country has been navigating through the learning curves successfully; though it is not yet perfect, it has continued to grow in democratic experience and practice,” the statement added.

Abbas, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, called on Nigerians of all tribes, religious background , gender, and age groups to contribute to the country’s growth and development. He assured that Nigeria would evolve into a nation that its citizens would be proud of.

He also urged citizens to support the government at all levels and remain law-abiding, emphasizing the collective responsibility of all “citizens as critical stakeholders to ensure the success of government plans, policies, and programs.”

Meanwhile, the 2024 edition of Democracy Day celebration is particularly significant as it coincides with the first anniversary of the 10th National Assembly.

It would be recalled that on May 29, 1999,General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s regime handed over power to a democratically elected government led by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo following the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election evidently won by the late business mogul, Chief Moshood Abiola.
