The Federal Government has announced that the application portal for state-owned tertiary education loan facilities will be accessible in three weeks.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, made this known during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, May 30.

This is as Sawyerr said the portal has received over 60,000 applications from students of Federal institutions across the country since the launch of the student loan fund.

He noted that over 90% of federal institutions had submitted the list of students, noting that only two federal universities and two federal polytechnics were yet to do so.

He also revealed that NELFUND has been able to successfully process over 30,000 applications so far.

The New Diplomat reports that on June 12, 2023, President Bola Tinubu signed the Access to Higher Education Act, 2023 into law.

The law enables Nigerian students to access interest-free loans for their educational pursuits in any Nigerian tertiary institution.
