Delta-born John Mrabure has been appointed as the Acting comptroller-General (ACG) of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola confirmed John Mrabure’s appointment as the Acting comptroller-General following the expiration of Ja’afaru Ahmed’s tenure as the Comptroller-General (CG).

Mrabure, who was a Deputy Comptroller-general (DCG) until his appointment, was tapped as the ACG on the ground that he is the most senior officer in the service.

Mrabure was initially the Director of Human Resource department of NCoS before he became the DCG of the Federal Fire Service(FFS) department of NCoS.

The New Diplomat recalls that Ahmed’s tenure as the CG was extended twice.

President Muhammadu Buhari had extended the tenure of Ahmed for one year, which took effect on July 21, 2019.

Following the end of his extended one year, Aregbesola further extended his tenure for six months on the ground that he improved the prison service.

His tenure was extended following the improvement in the education and agricultural programmes for inmates, the reformation of health care services and respect for human rights.

The New Diplomat also recall that Mrabure was among the ten officers promoted by Buhari in 2019. Mrabure was appointed as the DCG of the Federal Fire Service unit of NCoS.

Mrabure, among others were promoted following their excellent performance in the written and oral examinations and interview conducted by the board of the NCoS.

It would be recalled that Mrabure was the immediate former DCG of the NCoS. He was also the Director of Human Resources of NCoS. He hails from Delta State.
