In a historic victory speech Saturday night, United States president-elect, Joe Biden said the immediate task before him and vice president Kamala Harris is to restore the soul of America.

The speech which resonated strongly among anxious audience and citizens across the world, Saturday night (United States Eastern time), Biden said the battle about the election is all about America’s hope, possibilities, and the imperative of not only keeping that faith of hope but also spreading it.

He said: “ Barack Obama said when he ran.. Yes, we can. The battle here is for the soul of America. We must restore the soul of America, that is the task the American people have placed upon us. We must keep the faith and spread the faith because this is America of possibilities.Victory Speech

“America has called upon us to support the forces of decency, the forces of science, the forces of progress. They are asking for a battle for decency, a battle for justice…On Monday, I will name a group, panel of leading scientists to help come up with a plan on this pandemic…I am a proud democrat but I will govern as an American president. I will…There is the time to rebuild, there is a time to sow and there is a time to heal. This is the time to heal…”

According to Biden, it is his pledge to be the president who seeks to unite and not to divide and one who sees all states,  and not blue or red states but one United States of America.

“I sought this office to restore the soul of America to rebuild the middle class and to make America be respected across the world again”, he added.

Speaking further, he maintained that he is greatly humbled by the trust that the American people have placed upon him and Kamala Harris.

“I am humbled by the trust and confidence you placed in us. ..We are about people. We must lower the rhetorics now. There is a time to build, there is time to sow and there is a time to heal. Now is the time to heal.”

Biden who also appealed for unity and understanding after four years of turmoil, crisis and indecent rhetorics under  President Donald Trump, said now is the time to lower the temperature of rhoterics and allow for a restoration of the soul of the United States.

Biden spoke  in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, opening his speech with  a commendation for the electorate who voted for him, underlying the fact that his election with 74million votes is not only historic but also very significant in many ways.

“We have won with the largest number of votes ever in our Union history…”, he declared.

“I understand the disappointment tonight. I’ve lost a couple of times myself. But now, let’s give each other a chance,” Biden said, stressing, “this is the time to heal in America.”

The president elect reemphasized that  he was greatly humbled by the trust and confidence that American people have place upon him to lead them for the next four years.

“I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but unify, who doesn’t see red states and blue states, but only sees the United States.”

“I sought this office to rebuild the soul of America, to rebuild the backbone of this nation, the middle class and to make America respected around the world again,” Biden added.

Vice President-elect Harris who introduced president-elect Biden, in a moving and evocative speech quoting late Congressman John Lewis, said Americans chose Joe Biden because he is a healer, a decent leader, a unifer,  a tested hand with sense of purpose.

“When our very democracy was on the ballot in this election, the very soul of America at stake, and the world watching you,” Harris added, saying, “you ushered in a new day for America.”

She also applauded  Biden for taking the risk of choosing a woman as his running mate at a time like this, making it possible for her to emerge as the first woman vice president of the United States as well as the first woman of colour.
