Tension has escalated in Kogi State after twelve inmates broke out of the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, on Monday, March 24, 2025

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday.

According to Fanwo, the jailbreak occurred in the early hours, with the escaped inmates managing to flee the facility without causing visible structural damage.

He described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured citizens that the government, working with security agencies, would take steps to prevent a recurrence.

According to him, law enforcement agencies have re-arrested one of the escapees.

He stated: “The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns.

“This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system.”
