The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent Governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, winner of the October 9, 2020 gubernatorial election in Ondo.

Akeredolu polled 292,830 votes to defeat the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, who polled 195,791 votes.

The Governor defeated his closest rival, Jegede with 97,093 votes.

Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Hon. Agboola Ajayi came a distant third with 69,127 votes.

The INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Idowu Olayinka returned Akeredolu as the governor-elect at the INEC office in Akure.

“Having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of the APC as the winner, and he is hereby returned elected,” Olayinka declared.

According to INEC, a total of 572,745 votes were logged in as valid votes.

Akeredolu who is now re-elected had defeated PDP’s Jegede in 2016.

In 2016, Akeredolu secured 244, 842 votes in 2016, to defeat Jegede who garnered 150,380 votes.
