Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has formerly joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to continue with the pursuance of his re-election bid.
Today’s action by the Governor follows several political drama trailing his re-election ambition for a second term in Edo.
Obaseki made his defection to the PDP official on Friday afternoon when he led some of his appointees and supporters to the PDP secretariat in Benin-City.
He was received by the leadership of the party led by the state Chairman of the PDP, Hon Tony Aziegbemi.
Also, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan has confirmed the development on his Twitter handle.
However, the news was not unexpected as The New Diplomat reported Obaseki has been engaging in diplomatic horse trading with the PDP hierarchy to pave way for his emergence as the party’s torchbearer at the primaries expected to feature 4 aspirants including the Governor.
On Tuesday, Obaseki had resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
This follows his disqualification last Friday by the APC from contesting the forthcoming governorship primary of the party in Edo over alleged discrepancies in his certificates.
