The immediate-past Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola and a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, met behind closed doors in Lagos State.
The meeting has been described as a strategic one as it comes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This meeting also comes amidst ongoing discussions about forming coalitions to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2027 General election.
While the details of the meeting are not officially known, it comes after Aregbesola’s political group, Omoluabi Progressives, recently exited the APC, citing internal marginalization and unfair treatment.
The development has fueled speculation about Aregbesola’s potential alliances in order to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
It was also gathered that the discussions might have revolved around national politics, governance, and strategies for the upcoming elections.
Recall that politicians across opposition parties have been holding strategic meetings.
In November, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar hosted Peter Obi, a chieftain of the Labour Party, LP, to a breakfast meeting at his residence in Adamawa state.
In January, Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, Hamza Al-Mustapha, the ex-aide to the late Sani Abacha, and other politicians met in Abuja.
