Members of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) employed by the Oyo State Government temporarily suspended their seven-day warning strike on Monday.

The strike was suspended for 21 days to allow the state government to address their demands.

Comrade Olanrewaju Ajani, the NUAHP Unit Chairman, who announced the suspension of the strike in a statement on Monday, said that during various meetings, the union received assurances from the management of the State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and the State Health Management Board (SHMB) that the government has stepped in to address their cases and demands.

However, the union warned that if after the expiration of the 21 days no response from the government is received, it cannot guarantee continued industrial peace within the health sector in the state-owned health facilities.

The health professionals involved in the strike include laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, dental technologists, dental therapists, medical social workers, radiographers, nutritionists and dietitians, and health records and information managers.

The union comprises various health practitioners’ bodies, including the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Nigeria Society of Physiotherapists (NSP), The Association of Dental Technologists of Nigeria (ADTN), Nigerian Dental Therapists Association (NDTA), Association of Medical Social Workers of Nigeria (AMSWON).

Others are: Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN), Association of Nutritionists and Dietitians (AND), Association of Health Records and Information Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AHRIMPN), and Oyo State Association of Hospitals and Administrative Pharmacists (CSAHAP).
