By Adeyera Damilola (The New Diplomat’s politics desk)

Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday explained why it has not issued certificate of return to Hope Uzodinma.

The New Diplomat had earlier reported Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress was on Tuesday declared winner of the Imo 2019 governorship election by a seven man led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Mohammed.

The Supreme Court while delivering its judgement ordered that Uzodinma be given his Certificate of Return immediately. However, 15 hours since this judgement was made INEC is yet to compile with the order.

Giving their reason as to why it was yet to issue the certificate, INEC through it Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi told Journalists that the commission is yet to be served with the order of the Supreme Court.

He said, “ Dear Colleagues, please be informed that the commission is yet to served with the enrolled order of the Supreme Court judgement.

“Therefore, we cannot issue the Certificate of Return to the APC candidate yet. However, once the commission receives the enrolled order, the CoR will be issued.”
