The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday  announced the governorship election dates in Ekiti and Osun states.

The commission scheduled the election in Ekiti State to hold on Saturday, June 18, 2022 while that of Osun State will hold on July 16, 2022.

This announcement was made by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during a press briefing at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

The INEC boss also assured that the commission is committed to conducting free and fair elections in the two states.

In his words, “In keeping with our policy of announcing the dates of elections in advance to enable early and effective preparations by all concerned, the Commission has approved that the Ekiti State Governorship election will hold on Saturday, June 18, 2022, while the Osun State Governorship election will hold one month later on Saturday, July 16, 2022.”

Yakubu also stated that the election timetable for the Anambra Gubernatorial election has been released, while assuring that the commission will conduct a peaceful election.

According to him, the timetable and schedule of activities for both elections are available on the commission’s website and its social media platforms.

“Looking to the near future, the Commission is preparing to conduct the remaining off-season end of tenure elections ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“Already, activities listed in the timetable for the Anambra State Governorship election are being implemented. So too are those of the FCT Area Council election holding on February 12, 2022,” he added.

The INEC boss also appealed to the political parties to conduct a rancour-free primaries and ensure peaceful electioneering campaigns.
